the house spoke to me the first time i walked into this room. there were whispers of families & holidays & parties & happiness & life & age. i knew that this room, especially, wanted to be classic & quiet. it was easy, because she had such great bones to begin with. i added a simple crown moulding to soften the ceiling & bulked up the fireplace with canterra stone. once the southwestern wagon wheel lights, murals, & crackled red shutters were gone, the room purred.

like every room in the house, the furniture & decor is a happy mix: gorgeous designer pieces, inexpensive treasures, many old friends & choice pieces from lines i carry at my shop. my new favorite is the antique work table i found in paris; the antique dealer told me, “it’s for making furniture that flies”. i wanted simple window coverings & found delightfully wide painter’s linen. the colors for this room are subdued & misty, except for the ceiling. yee haa, this gal is sassy, too!
